Save HM Land registry from privatisation!
The Government has announced that HM Land Registry may be privatised to raise money for the Treasury.
We believe that privatising the Land registry is wrong for these reasons;
- It could increase the cost of buying and selling property
- It could reduce the speed of buying and selling property
- It could increase the likelihood of Property Fraud
- It could compromise the fundamental ability of Government to regulate and underwrite (or insure) property transactions
- It could reduce Public Access
- And, finally, the Land Registry actually does a good job and has a track record of improvement and innovation that would put many private businesses and certainly most Government Departments and Agencies to shame.
